BaitoneAlpino Suggests: Fumane
The Fumane Valley—also known as the “Valle dei Progni” due to its abundance of streams—is a key destination for history and nature enthusiasts alike. The area is characterized by a diverse range of natural environments, which fostered the development of early human settlements as far back as prehistoric times. Indeed, the municipality is home to the Fumane Cave—one of Europe's most significant prehistoric sites—which was inhabited from approximately 80,000 to 25,000 years ago, first by Neanderthals and later by *Homo sapiens*. Fumane also offers numerous attractions for nature lovers: a visit to the Molina Waterfall Park is a must, though excellent alternatives include Monte Pastello (rich in orchid and butterfly species), Monte Crocetta and Pastelletto (renowned for their panoramic views), and the trails along the streams of the “Valle dei Progni”. If, however, your interests lie more in art and culture, you should visit the mysterious Villa della Torre, the Sanctuary of La Salette, the Church of Santa Maria del Degnano in the Vaio district, and the Corte di Osan—one of the oldest and most distinctive examples of rural architecture.
