Rovereto lies almost in the centre of the Vallagarina, where the Adige River widens and the valley opens to the south. Within the city, you can see historical evidence of the dominations Rovereto has endured: the Venetian style in the portals, coats of arms, and porticoes; the 18th century, the Silk Age, with its palaces and elegant streets. The past coexists with the present through the MART museum of modern contemporary art and the Depero House of Futurist Art. The Castle, with its War Museum, recalls the front that crossed the surrounding valleys during the First World War; not far away, the Castel Dante Ossuary and the Bell of the Fallen keep alive a daily reflection on peace. The vineyard valley extends around the historic centre, perfect for exploring on foot. If you prefer cycling, the Adige cycle path is smooth and well-marked. You can cover short distances or plan a longer leg towards Trento or Lake Garda.
