BaitoneAlpino Suggests: Riva del Garda
Riva del Garda is one of the towns overlooking Garda Trentino. The historic center is lively both in summer with tourists enjoying the sunshine and the lake, and in winter with its Christmas markets. It's also rich in history and vestiges of the past. The ghetto neighborhood is definitely worth a visit. A panoramic elevator takes you up to the Bastione, the gray stone fortress that overlooks the town, also reachable with a pleasant 20-minute walk. The village is overlooked by the mountain that houses the Hermitage of Santa Barbara: reaching it takes about an hour's uphill walk, but the view from its terrace is priceless. You can also decide to take a scenic stroll along the old Ponale road, which from Riva winds up the mountainside. The Rocca, in the town center, is home to a museum for a dive into local culture, or you can visit the Apponale Tower, which, at 34 meters high and with 165 steps, offers a priceless view of the lake. But even walkers won't be disappointed: the Riva del Garda lakefront will take you all the way to Torbole, passing by Porto San Nicolò. From there, you can decide to take a detour up Mount Brione, which will immerse you in more recent history with its forts. In short, Riva del Garda is a gem not to be missed!
