Baitone Alpino suggest: Sentiero del Ponale

The Ponale Path, north of Lake Garda, is one of the most famous and appreciated paths in Europe and connects Riva del Garda to the Val di Ledro. The walk can be done on foot in about three hours each way, or by mountain bike or bicycle. The only precaution is to pay the utmost attention to cyclists who sometimes whiz by at high speed, creating some discomfort for pedestrians. The beautiful Ponale promenade starts right from the center of Riva del Garda. Once you have parked your car, you have to pass the port and then follow the coast towards Limone, then past the Riva hydroelectric power station you reach the Gardesana Occidentale. The path is indicated as D01 towards Ledro. After taking the unpaved road, the path begins which offers breathtaking views of rocks, lake, history and nature. The route is quite long but there are no great difficulties except in the last stretch towards Lake Ledro where the route crosses an uphill wood. Better to choose a season that is not too hot for a walk along the Ponale path, and in any case bring water, something to eat, wear comfortable shoes and obviously a hat and sunscreen! You can do the entire round trip, just over 20 km in total, or choose the ring route, shorter but always beautiful. The Ponale path is a recommended walk for everyone, absolutely not to be missed!
